![]() Learn how to do the upgrade - which required steps one would have taken to install otherwise.įor your future consideraton. Gee, no upgrade in the repo so now what? No biggy. ![]() So wasn't long before one had to upgrade. The version installed was not the latest and greatest stable. but soon learned that was the tip of the iceburg. So you have a 2.7 'point' what?Ĭan recall that Fedora (at one time) had Moodle in their repo's also. I'd say ops that rely totally on GUI might have more issues than others who don't mind a little (or a lot) of CLI.ĭon't think anyone at Moodle HQ (the source of the moodle code/app) maintains the Ubuntu repo. Much depends upon the system operator and how familiar they are with their choice of 'poison' (for they are ALL evil!). We've really strayed from Hot Potatoes now! ) But. ![]() And know, that some things just won't work the way we'd like them to work. in 10 years we all might be scratching our heads wondering what we ever saw in Linux, MacOSX, or Winders. there's the idea that the network is the computer (started by Sun) and it looks like Google is making a pretty good run at that idea with Chromebooks, Chrome browser, Android, etc. But, then again, that (to some) is the 'beauty' in Linux.Īnd, to top that all off. While there has been some effort to provide a base across all distro's and there has been some progress made towards that end, it's still not 100%. Ubuntu, while popular, isn't the same as Scientific Linux, or Fedora, or CentOS, etc. Linux on the desktop hasn't reached critical mass yet for 'all good open source software' makers to provide Linux specific installers. MacOSX has the same kinda thing with things like Fink. think Wine folks tell you that up front and they have (or had) a compatibility page at one time that showed what was 100% and what wasn't, what works 90%, etc. Have you tried that on your linux laptop/workstation?Īnything that emulates another OS will be 'buggy' (heck, why would you expect trying to emulate buggy and security issued OS software to be any better emulated).
