Their menu was exciting as well, ranging from breakfast to pizza to, Elvis’ favorite, a peanut butter & banana sandwich. Everything on my plate seemed fresh, was made to perfection, and the sauce on that sandwich is outstanding. I was a huge fan of both, especially the food. I am on vacation so I started with a local Memphis beer and went with my servers’ suggestion on having the Rainmaker basically a Turkey club. I did not know it’s history or how cool it was when I walked through the door, but as someone who appreciates that kind of thing I was thrilled. This was the closest place open to me while visiting Memphis today, found it just with google, and couldn’t be happier. If ever I'm back in Memphis, as Arnold says, I'll be back. In any case, iIts been at least 5 month since my business trip and I had to finally take the time to write a review. The artwork was tasteful and fit the color scheme & restaurant motif. The chairs were also very comfortable and the atmosphere cozy and quaint. Iris provided a dining experience, IMHO, that will count among the most memorable of my life. The duck confit (pictured) was mind blowing. This will sound unlikely, but everything was extraordinary. Based on her suggestions, our group decided to sample a wide variety of appetizers and meals that we shared. Our waitress was highly knowledgeable about wine pairings with the various meals, provided detailed and helpful descriptions of the food, made excellent suggestions, and was highly attentive throughout the evening. There were so many dimensions to the dining experience that I'll try to do justice to. We were particularly disappointed in this experience because many of our guests were from out of town, so I was embarrassed for the way that they were treated as our guests to the city.I'm not from here and came on the recommendation of a co-worker. When asked who the owner was so that we might follow up on this experience, the manager on duty responded that he did not know who the owner was nor was he authorized to share this information with us. Our party remained calm and courteous, yet the common decency was not reciprocated. However, we were the ONLY party in the entire restaurant which further solidified the notion that their behavior and level of service was unacceptable. I think we would have ignored this behavior if there was a full house, and we were in the midst of the brunch rush. They even left us alone for another hour in the private seating area upstairs. The wait staff and the manager were completely inconsiderate and offered no apologies for our dining experience. There were 2 people in our party who NEVER received their food. When half of the orders were brought to the table, many were incomplete. It took nearly an hour for our food orders to be placed. Our reservation was confirmed, seated promptly, ordered was all downhill from there. I hope the kitchen and dining room staff will be able to maintain the standard that we enoyed.Īs the culminating event for a 30th birthday celebration, my friends and family decided to dine here for Sunday brunch. I realize that different people get different experiences on different nights, but based on my own evening there, I would unhesitatingly recommend Automatic Slim's for its food, its atmosphere, and its service. Still, the components and the combination were delicious. I also had an appetizer of roasted red and yellow beets with a goat cheese croquette the beets were fabulous, but the balance of the dish was a bit off - the large, rich croquette overpowered the beets, even with the addition of nicely dressed greens that accompanied the dish. Both were seasoned beautifully, and the scallops were cooked perfectly. Beyond that, my main course of seared scallops on a bed of pumpkin seed risotto was nothing short of brilliant. I was quite surprised to check TripAdvisor afterwards and find so much criticism of surly or slow service our experience was just the opposite. We were greeted and seated graciously and had a superb meal, along with service that was courteous, capable, and expeditious without being at all rushed. Two of us wandered into Automatic Slim's on a Saturday night without a reservation or, frankly, any research or forethought.
